July 8, 2015

Today, I went back to Dr. Ward who did my first surgery.  He looked at my incision and said that it was healing great, and that I had two options; 1.dry pack it until it healed up or 2. he could stitch it up.  I went with option 2.  I was getting tired of having to pack that thing.  So I have to go back in 2 weeks to have my stitches removed.  That will be a new experience for me.  I have had staples before but never stitches.  I also had my round of blood cultures done so in 1-5 days, we should know whether or not I still have the yeast infection.  Then I went to Toad Suck Park and sat in a pavilion and enjoyed the fresh air.  It was so relaxing.  Then around 6 p.m., it rained hard and man did the wind blow.  Not a lot else scheduled so far this week.  We are waiting to hear from the doctor's office about when they are going to put my port in.  I did get my tentative schedule for the start of chemo.  On August 5th, I have my PET scan done, and then on the 10th I begin my chemo. Well, I have probably bored you enough for today, so I think I will go to bed.

My Cancer Journey

I thought I would update everyone on what has been going on with me this year. On March 12th, I was admitted to the hospital with extreme anemia which we later found out was due to extremely heavy menstral bleeding caused by a fibroid tumor in the cervix.  I had to have 4 units of blood and then take large doses of birth control pills, and iron supplements.
On March 31st, I went in and had a partial hysterectomy, as the doctor didn't want to throw me into menopause at 39.  He removed the cervix, uterus, and fallopian tubes.  They did a biopsy on the uterus, and found out that I had endometrial cancer, and there was going to have to be another surgery in my future.
On June 18th, I had my second surgery of the year, and had my ovaries removed and did a pelvic lymph node biopsy.  One of my ovaries came back positive for cancer, however, the lymph nodes were negative.
Before long I will begin my journey of chemotherapy, and then radiation treatments.  I am going to try to post along the way, if I don't get too sick.
