The lights are do not have to be plugged in, as they are solar powered. I charged them, and turned them on that night and fell in love with it right away. I just shown them still bundled as I am not currently decorating for Christmas but cant wait to get them up.
Don't be frightened by this but it does come in a brown box, but that being said they are well protected.
I would recommend this product. I can't wait until Christmas to set these up.
